Introducing the Evolution Force

Great Bay Rod Company has introduced three new additions to its Evolution Series Saltwater Fly Rods.

The new Evolution Force incorporates several advanced design concepts that include very aggressive rod taper and an industry-first angled stripping guide.

The Evolution Force was designed specifically for saltwater, and any angler knows what happens when he or she makes a perfect cast to a bonefish tailing at 90 feet: the line shoots off the boat deck or out of your stripping basket.

Everything looks good until your cast falls short of the mudding bone. And you didn’t even step on the line. What happened?
Your line kept running into the stripping guide, set perpendicular to the rod blank, and the constant friction took distance off of your cast. We’ve solved that problem by using an angled-forward stripping guide. Traditionally, the first stripping guide creates the most friction, so we pitched our guides on a 45-degree forward angle. You’ll be amazed at how effortlessly the line moves through the guides, and the increased shooting distance helps you to hit your target.

Angled Forward Stripping Guide

The steep taper allows fly fishers to cast quickly to moving fish.  Once they hook up, the power found deep in the rod butt provides extra strength for an angler to fight these large fast running fish. Simply put, you will be able to turn and tame the largest and fastest species found in any saltwater environment. The 9 foot 3-piece rods feature an extra-fast action taper and proprietary high modulus graphite.  Components include a genuine ALPS triangular locking reel seat, premium extended full wells grip with a fighting butt and titanium REC guides.  An aluminium rod tube and bag are included to protect your fly rod. The rods are grain rated to allow the fly angler to use a wide range of fly lines and line tapers while targeting their favorite species of inshore and offshore saltwater game fish. The Force/MV1 is rated at 190-220 grains, the Force/MV2 at 260-300 grains and the Force/MV3 at 350-400 grains.

“We are extremely proud to introduce this supercharged line of fly rods. The Evolution Force has been a labor of love over the last year designed with both the innovation and features that people have come to expect from Great Bay Rod Company. The rod concepts and prototypes were extensively field tested in Australia on big fish found in some of the toughest waters in the world.  Derek McKenzie Outdoors, our international distributor in Australia and New Zealand, has coordinated the team of both professional and veteran recreational anglers. Great Bay Rod Company builds fly rods the same way you, the fly fisher, would build them if you owned the company.” said David Gibson, President of Great Bay Rod Company.

Evolution Angler Reviews

The first thing noticed after opening the aluminum rod tube... is the look of quality we have come to expect from more expensive brands. The rod is described as a fast action, but it is not a broomstick that is tiring to use. If anything, just the opposite is true... the rod was found to be crisp and responsive, handling both short and long casts with ease. The rod allowed one cast presentations at distances of 60 to 80 feet, making it ideal for estuary or flats use. As for the power of this rod, there is more than enough to punch a fly into the wind as well as handle bulky flies like Dahlbergs. The Evolution Pro Team also has ample power in the butt section to apply plenty of pressure to lift a fish from under a boat or stop a fast running pelagic.

I don't usually recommend a rod as there is no doubt that we, as opinated fly fishers, could provide you with logical reseaons why the rod we use is best. That said... if you are in the market for a saltwater or estuary rod, give the ProTeam a try. I am sure you will be impressed.
